TBK Therapy, PLLC

The name TBK Therapy, short for To Be Known, is a gentle nod to psychoanalytic theory which considers being known by another and being known by ourselves as an inherent human need and powerful source of healing and growth.

But for many, being seen or known by another can feel incredibly vulnerable (even unsafe) - especially if you learned from life experiences that it wasn’t always safe or you might not be accepted or loved if you expressed yourself fully, authentically. This can complicate things in a myriad of ways… in relationships, pursuing your dreams, your capacity to feel alive, picking up habits that don’t serve you in the long run, and in how you engage with yourself.

And this is where therapy comes onto the scene and loosens everything up for new possibilities.

Therapy is a space to get to know yourself, truly and deeply, and to experience what it’s like to be known by someone else. It’s a way of collaboratively putting words to what you might not yet understand: why you keep doing this or can’t get out of a certain stuck feeling, even though you know it’s not good for you or it’s not in alignment with what you want. It’s the process of tuning into the ways your body and your emotions may be asking to be attended to, so you can understand what it’s communicating. Once you have access to that which now may be outside your conscious awareness, freedom and choice become available! You get to make informed decisions while no longer tripping over your own feet. It’s incredible what can happen when we give voice to previously ignored feelings, make eye contact with painful experiences, and allow ourselves to be honest with what we want (and openly receive it).
